The Spalding Flower Queen
Congratulations to Daisy Ivatt who was crowned the Spalding Flower Queen 2011 at a VIP reception in Ayscoughfee Hall Museum. Daisy is 23 and from Northorpe Road in Donington and was inspired to enter the competition by her granddad Eric Ivatt who had always hoped she would be Flower Queen one day. As head of drama at Gleed Boys' School in Spalding she is used to being in front of big audiences.
Daisy said:
I'm so happy and excited to win, I never expected to. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and thought all of the contestants and judges were fantastic. I aim to really try to make a difference this year by getting as many people from all the corners of the area involved as much as possible so that it becomes the people's parade.
She says her strengths are having a positive attitude, being a good leader and problem solver and having excellent teamwork skills. Daisy was crowned by outgoing Spalding Flower Queen Claire Allen, who had earlier said how much she'd enjoyed her reign and urged the winner to savour every moment "as it goes very quickly".
Daisy added:
I feel honoured to take over from Claire after the great job she did.
